You can’t teach someone who is not in a space where they want to learn. Sometimes we see friends heading for a brick wall at high speed, but they can’t see it, and they don’t want to hear about it. All you can do is gently give them your opinion, and reiterate regularly that you are there for them, and then pray like mad!

When they do hit a brick wall, don’t say ‘I told you so’ – they know that. Just love them through the car wreck but protect yourself emotionally.

If they are repeat offenders, act like their insurance company would act, and refuse to cover any more of their irresponsible actions.
